The Opalescence sticky, viscous formula does not leach from the tray like other bleaching gels, and the sticky gel holds the comfortable tray securely in place. Potassium nitrate and fluoride decrease sensitivity while strengthening enamel and preventing caries. Twenty percent water content prevents dehydration and shade relapse, making Opalescence one of the most reliable bleaching gels available.A university study proves that the gel stays active for 8–10 hours during overnight bleaching.
- PF formula strengthens enamel, decreases sensitivity, prevents caries. Opalescence tooth whitening gel contains PF (potassium nitrate and fluoride), which helps improve the overall health of the teeth and increase comfort.
- Formulated to prevent dehydration and shade relapse
- Four concentrations for treatment flexibility
- Mint, Peach or Melon flavor - 2 syringes per pack
- Day or night wear
- Sticky, viscous gel won’t migrate to soft
Opalescence is recommended for whitening discolored teeth prior to placement of composite, veneers, and/or crowns. It is effective in removing some or all internal tooth discolorations due to congenital, systemic, pharmacologic, traumatic, etc., factors as well as aging. It is successful with fluorosis and even tetracycline staining.

Indications for Use
Your refill kit purchase is to be used in well fitting, properly made custom trays. Please have your dentist make a professionally molded tray made of your teeth to use with this product. If you do not, you will probably be dissatisfied with the results. Your trays will need to be updated every couple of years to maintain an adequate fit. The trays should not touch your gums. If they do touch your gums, gel will get on your gums and it may cause burning or stinging. I suggest a consultation with your personal dentist to review your trays and needs.
From flavor to flavor and depending on the filling process, Opalescence syringes can be found with no bubbles or with many small bubbles. Bubbles in the gel are a normal part of the production process. Many of the pictures in our literature and catalog show the product with many small bubbles. These bubbles do not result from peroxide decomposition in the syringe; they are simply inherent in a thick formulation such as this.
The gel does not need to be refrigerated for transport and delivery, however refrigeration for storage is recommended to extend shelf life. Product life, expiration, is approximately 1.5 years from purchase.
You MUST start with clean teeth. Please get a dental cleaning. You can’t whiten tartar and plaque!
The following review are several helpful hints from product reviewers:
This product works great. The following are the time of use for the various concentrations:
Opalescence 10% for 8-10 hours or overnight,
Opalescence 15% for 4-6 hours,
Opalescence 20% for 2-4 hours,
Opalescence 35% for 30 minutes.
I would recommend that new users keep the solution on for less time in the beginning, gradually building up tolerance. If the 35% product comes in contact with your gums it will sizzle or burn...so...just put a little bit of old fashioned Vaseline on your gums to protect them. Easy. This is much less, or not at all, with the 20% or lower concentrations. If your gums are burning you are using too much gel or ill-fitting trays. DO NOT GET GEL ON YOUR GUMS
If you leave 35% on too long you will experience some sensitivity. It may also turn your gums white. The sensitivity goes away in a day or two, no problem. After using it a few more times, will be able to leave it on longer with no sensitivity whatsoever. The main benefits of using the stronger 35% solution is reduced tray wear time. The benefit of lower concentrations is less sensitivity. If you experience any significant sensitivity, stop your treatment and talk to your dentist.
Since you won't be licking your lips or swallowing for a while, I like to apply a bit of chapstick to my lips, and have a good drink of water before getting started.
The PDF instruction sheet from the Opalescence website also states that you should use approximately one third to one half (total) of a syringe worth of solution to fill both trays
To target specific stains, add a little extra to that spot on the tray, and I apply a bit of solution directly to my teeth. The syringe makes it easy to put the product right where you want it. Solution is less important on the back of the trays, because no one is going to look at the back of your teeth.
All of our product is fresh and direct from Ultradent, the manufacturer of Opalescence. Opalescence expiration date pressed into the syringe at the flange.
While “tingling” to bleach touching your gums is a frequently reported side effect, it is NOT always experienced and is not representative of bleaching efficacy nor freshness. It is also more common with the 35% solution than the 20%.
Contains carbamide peroxide, potassium nitrate and fluoride.

Great product. I use Opalescence with my professionally made trays and it works perfectly and saves me hundreds of dollars compared to what my dentist would charge.
